With this being my first foray into the realm of blogging, I hope to make it an informative and hopefully influential input.
First, allow me to introduce myself, I am an American. I was born in this country and love it and what it stands for. I am young and often overlooked by politicians as I am 24 years old and the statistics of my fellow Americans at my age show that we vote every so often at best. I believe in one God, one truth, and as such, my views are tempered in such a way.
I do not endeavour to mislead or be a loudspeaker for any one point of view as I understand many different approaches to be useful in dealing with the problems we face today as being needed. However, I am much at odds with approaches that would undermine the greatness of the United States, the essential liberties we have been endowed, and the hard-won rights which we possess. And there are distinct differences between liberties and rights which are often overlooked as the terms have grown to be interchangable in common lexicon.
Liberty is defined as the freedom to do an action or behave a certain way. A maximum of liberty would equal anarchy. Conversely, a right is defined as permission to behave in a certain way. Thus, an absence of rights would equal a dictatorship. Liberties are endowed, rights are given.
